Constitution Bill Passes After Eventful State Opening of Parliament
The State Opening of the Australian Parliament started with the throne speech delivered by the Governor General which happens at the start of every term to outline the Government’s agenda. Following this, Members of the House of Representatives moved from the Senate to the House to officially start their first House session of the term. AusDonutMan was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives succeeding CorporateHarold who moved to the front bench. Following this, samthebuildr123 was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker after being nominated by the Leader of the Opposition, BobJHawke. Then parliament went to chaos as members on all sides of the chamber started interjecting. The Leader of the Opposition got ejected by the Speaker shortly following the repeated interjections by both Government and Opposition members. Following members statements and a chaotic question time, the Government introduced their first piece of legislation for the term, the Prime Minister outlined the new constitution proposal which both the Government and Opposition worked on in cooperation with group management. A division was then called for this legislation with 15 members voting aye, 1 short of a majority. Pilot8777, the Shadow Home Affairs Minister, voted nay on the division but shortly after bowed to pressure after almost all members of the chamber voted for his expulsion from the Parliament resulting in him voting aye, which then led to the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 2022 being passed. After this, Parliament was adjourned after a long and entertaining state opening.
